Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) offered a glowing introductory speech to Donald Trump Saturday whom he called "the greatest president we have ever known."
Gaetz was at the New York Young Republicans Club annual gala when he introduced Trump, who headlined the event. The Florida representative pointed to "some of the greatest assets in the world" in New York that were partially financed by Trump, such as The Trump Tower, Trump International Hotel, Central Park skating rink, and the Plaza Hotel.

"And how has New York rewarded this great man? By trying to bankrupt and imprison him," Gaetz said. "And why has this been the Left’s response? It is because they seethe at the thought of greatness. They are the political party that considers Kamala Harris an intellectual, John Fetterman a senator, and Lizzo a sex symbol. Look at how they treat our great nation; everything is a downgrade from the Senate dress code to the freaking dollar."
With the 2024 presidential election less than a year away, Gaetz made it clear that Trump has his endorsement. Meanwhile, Florida's Gov. Ron DeSantis is among the Republican candidates contesting Trump. According to Gaetz, Republicans have largely been "derelict in their duty."
"Our heroes are Davy Crockett, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, Donald Trump. Their heroes are George Floyd, and Dylan Mulvaney, and Anthony Fauci. It is why we have no choice to elect Donald Trump the next president of the United States. He more than anyone knows that you have to fight—you have to fight like hell to return this nation to our glory," Gaetz said. "Politics is choose your fighter time. I know who I want fighting for me, and America, and all of you, the greatest president we have ever known. I will fight for this man. I will put it all on the line because I see how hard he fights for all of us."

The Florida congressman also went on to tip his hat to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, referring to him as "the greatest mayor who has ever lived." Both Trump and Giuliani are facing a number of charges in Georgia surrounding election interference, to which they both have pleaded not guilty. Three co-defendants have since accepted plea deals, including Kenneth Chesebro, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis. They will likely be expected to testify against the remaining co-defendants in this case.
The former president has maintained a massive lead in the polls for the GOP presidential nomination despite the various indictments against him, which also include federal charges of mishandling classified documents. He has pleaded not guilty to all 91 felony charges against him.
