


Cold weather in Colorado and much of the Midwest is causing numerous flight delays and cancellations on Wednesday.
More than 200 flights scheduled to go to Denver International Airport were delayed or canceled Wednesday morning, per FlightAware, while more than 200 flights originating from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have been canceled or delayed.

Winter weather warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service from as far west as Nevada and as far east as Maine, with much of the winter storm affecting the Rocky Mountains and Midwest. In Minneapolis, Minnesota, the NWS warned that "travel will become increasingly difficult later today, and nearly impossible tonight as winds increase and snow intensifies."
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport has seen more than 100 flights scheduled to originate from the airport canceled or delayed, while Chicago O'Hare International Airport has seen nearly 100 flights scheduled to originate from the airport canceled or delayed.
Several airlines, including Delta, Southwest, American, and United, have issued warnings and waivers for travelers flying in the affected areas. Denver is a focus city for Southwest Airlines and a hub for United Airlines, while Detroit and Minneapolis serve as hubs for Delta Air Lines.

Winter weather previously wreaked havoc on air travel in the region around Christmas last year, when several airlines had to cancel thousands of flights. Southwest's cancellations were the most widespread during those interruptions and have led to investigations by Congress and federal agencies.
