NextImg:Massie jokes Trump should get an ‘act of Congress’ over his social media slam - Washington Examiner

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) mocked President Donald Trump’s lengthy social media statement condemning him, suggesting that the president has declared “so much war on me.”

Trump’s slam of Massie comes after the Kentucky lawmaker condemned the recent strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites, calling it “not Constitutional” and saying there was “no imminent threat” to the United States to authorize such an attack. Massie’s opposition has since drawn the attention of Trump, who accused the lawmaker of being “disrespectful to our great military” and vowing to campaign “really hard” for Massie’s primary opponent.

“I know he went to Wharton, but I bet he never wrote a paper that long when he was at Wharton,” Massie said on Timcast IRL. “But it’s amazing that the president of the United States, the guy who launched seven B-2 bombers to the other side of the planet, to bomb targets over there and return them, he got up and spent 15 minutes writing a tweet about a Republican. Not a Democrat, a Republican congressman from Kentucky. I responded to that tweet, I actually quoted it, and I just said, you know, ‘President Trump’s declared so much war on me in the last day that it should require an act of Congress at this point.’”

Massie then speculated that Trump is targeting him “specifically” to keep “other Republicans from breaking” with the rest of the party, pointing to most House Republicans voting for the president’s “one big, beautiful bill” despite having “lots of issues.” He added that Trump is “coming after me” to tell other Republicans to “stay in the barn” and avoid the “whipping” that he is trying to give Massie.

The lawmaker was one of only a few Republicans to vote against the “big, beautiful bill” last month, which narrowly passed the House. When asked if Massie would vote in favor of this when it returns to the House of Representatives, he said “no,” and explained that Congress can instead create “a better, more beautiful bill” compared to its current form.

Despite his criticism of Trump, the “big, beautiful bill,” and the Iran strikes, Massie pushed back against the idea of impeaching the president, something floated by Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). He contended that impeachment is not “a serious solution” and a better way to rein in Trump is his War Powers Resolution.

EARLY REACTION SHOWS REPUBLICANS SPLIT OVER TRUMP’S DECISION TO BOMB IRAN

In the wake of Trump’s criticism of Massie, Trump-aligned political advisers have formed a political action committee in Kentucky to oust the lawmaker. Tony Fabrizio and Chris LaCivita have confirmed they will be running the PAC with the goal of putting forth a primary challenger.

Massie admitted that his next primary election will be a “hell of a fight.” However, he suggested that Trump’s attacks against him led to a boost in campaign funds, highlighting how he has raised $100,000 “in the last 24 hours.”
