NextImg:Massachusetts bill exposes how gender ideology is destroying the family - Washington Examiner

Last week, the Massachusetts House of Representatives unanimously passed its latest attack on the family.

The Democratic-controlled chamber passed the Parentage Equality Act, which uses radical gender ideology to redefine the family by legitimizing the legality of parents and children in LGBT families born via surrogacy, adoption, or other methods of assisted reproduction.

This newly defined “parentage” is described as a “person with the intent to be the parent of a child.” The word “parentage” itself, used throughout the bill, is an effort to accommodate leftist gender activists and undermine vital familial roles by stripping parents of their formal titles and replacing the terms “mother” or “father” with the new woke term.

The bill presents especially disturbing qualifications for the legal protections for surrogacy. If signed into law, commercial surrogacy would become both legal in the instance of a woman carrying her non-biological child as well as if she exchanges a biological child for money. This bill would essentially protect the ability to sell someone’s own child.

Before H. 4672 was introduced, Massachusetts law regarding surrogacy fell under traditional statutes: Parents opting for surrogacy must undergo a background check, legally adopt the child at birth, and one of the parents must have a genetic relation to the child.

The Parentage Equality Act attempts to change this by forgoing the requirements of a genetic relationship with the parents and child and granting parenthood to whomever “intends to parent.”

Democrats have argued the current legal qualifications for surrogacy in Massachusetts are harmful to the LGBT community and that legal adoption should not be required for same-sex or trans-identifying couples to become parents.

According to the Boston 25 News testimony of Lindsey White, a Massachusetts mother, and her lesbian partner, the requirement of adoption of children made her feel “inferior.”

“In order for my wife, C, and I to have the same parental rights, we were going to have to legally go through a second-parent adoption, which was actually mind-blowing to me,” White said.

Activists of the LGBT agenda say that the current laws in Massachusetts are purposefully excluding people who are part of same-sex and trans-identifying couples, such as White.

But let’s not forget these qualifications are to ensure the safety of a child, not to protect the feelings of the people with the “intention of parenting.”

But the more concerning stipulation found in the bill is the legalization of baby-selling. Within H. 4672, the bill allows for a woman to become a surrogate mother after a child is conceived through her own natural means, contracting out parents to pay for her child once she is already pregnant. This would allow a woman to receive financial compensation for the contractual exchange of her own biological child after becoming pregnant.

Additionally, the bill would repeal the current stipulations regarding couples opting for artificial insemination. This would allow for an intended surrogate mother to solicit payment from an “intended parent,” with the court’s approval, to become impregnated by natural means via the intended parent. In other words, the bill would legalize prostitution with the intention of baby-selling.

The bill has to pass the state Senate, but it was unanimously agreed upon in one of the state’s legislative chambers. This is deeply unsettling and indicates the sickening trajectory of the LGBT agenda with regard to the family and children.

The purpose of adoption and surrogacy are meant to aid couples who want to build families but are inhibited by natural or personal stipulations. The Parentage Equality Act undermines this and builds a sickening business model for reproduction.

Ultimately, the bill will harm children — not protect them. The Parentage Equality Act does little to ensure the safety and health of the children and even puts them at risk by expanding the legal reach of the multi-gender crazed cult. It also degrades their dignity by treating them as a mechanism for financial compensation.

Just as important, the bill would further undermine the vital role the traditional family unit plays. Parents play fundamental roles in society, and those roles should not be sacrificed to accommodate the “intentions” of a delusional LGBT agenda that claims legally accepting responsibility for a child through adoption is oppressive.

Parenthood means being responsible for the care and well-being of a child. And parenthood is best achieved, and is the most beneficial for a child, when a mother and father are at the helm. Massachusetts Democrats abandon this model at their own peril.
