Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) explained that he supports the large-scale deportation effort promised by President-elect Donald Trump because it will save money.
Trump’s plan to pursue mass deportations has been met with criticisms of its cost. Donalds recommended that these criticisms go “ignored” because the alternative will only be more expensive.
“Listen, creating a repatriation force to send illegal aliens back to their home countries, yeah, that’s probably going to cost us anywhere from $80 to $100 billion,” Donalds said Monday on The Ingraham Angle. “But that pales to the cost of keeping those illegal aliens here in the United States. Not just at the federal level but to state budgets and local budgets.”
According to Trump “border czar” Tom Homan, it could cost as much as $86 billion to enact the deportations. In comparison, the Federation for American Immigration Reform estimates that it will cost the U.S. $150 billion every year to facilitate illegal immigrants, making the estimated cost of deportation a welcome price reduction on the issue.
The Florida representative noted that President Joe Biden has not been shy to spend federal tax dollars. Donalds said he would work to reverse Biden’s agenda from the last four years.

“If we spend some money to do that, it pales in comparison to the future economic success for America and Americans,” Donalds said. “We’re going to get that job done.”
The plan, as explained by Trump and Homan, is to focus on deporting immigrants who are convicted of crimes or who have since committed crimes in the U.S. Donalds predicted that as Immigration and Customs Enforcement begins to deport this group, others will choose to leave the country rather than face the consequences of being deported.
