Billionaire and Shark Tank co-host Mark Cuban stated Sunday he is proud to pay his taxes every year, joking that his social media followers should “tag a former president” who does not.
Cuban’s post on social media was referencing how former President Donald Trump declared negative income on his federal returns in 2015, 2016, and 2017, with $0 taxable income for each year. These actions by Trump saw him only pay $750 in income taxes in 2016 and 2017, as well as paying $0 in 2020.
“I pay what I owe,” Cuban posted on X. “Tomorrow I will wire transfer to the IRS $288,000,000.00. This country has done so much for me, I’m proud to pay my taxes every single year. Tag a former president that you know doesn’t.”
Taxes for most people in the United States are due on April 15 this year. Residents in Maine and Massachusetts meanwhile have until Wednesday because of observed holidays.
Cuban’s slight against Trump is not the first time he has been critical of the former president, as he stated last month that he intends to vote for President Joe Biden even if the president “was being given last rites.” He also said he would support then-presidential candidate Nikki Haley in the Texas Republican primary, which Trump won on March 5.

Toward the end of 2023, it was speculated that Cuban would make a last-minute run for office, as he announced he would leave Shark Tank after its 16th season; reports also indicated he planned to sell a majority of his stake in the Mavericks basketball team. Cuban confirmed to the Washington Examiner that he’s “not running” for office, and instead is focusing on Cost Plus, his online pharmaceutical company.
Trump, the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party in the 2024 election, is facing a multitude of legal battles while on the campaign trail, with jury selection for his hush money trial underway. The trial relates to 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide an alleged hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
