A 24-year-old man from Hanover, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the suspect accused of shooting five police officers in York County on Wednesday.

The Associated Press has identified Matthew Ruth as the suspect. He was also charged on Wednesday with accusations of stalking, trespassing, and loitering and prowling at night, according to state court documents. Those three charges were filed in North Cordorus Township, where the shooting occurred, one day before the deadly incident.

The shooting killed three police officers and left two others injured and in critical condition. The names of the officers killed and injured in the shooting have not yet been released.

The Pennsylvania communications office says it has not yet released any names of suspects associated with the shooting.

The Associated Press report says a law enforcement official identified Ruth as the suspect to the outlet on the condition of anonymity, as the investigation is ongoing.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department was assigned as the arresting agency in Ruth’s stalking case, court documents show. The arrest date is blank, the case status is listed as “inactive,” and the processing status says “awaiting preliminary hearing,” according to the court document.

Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris said Wednesday night that “there is no current active threat” and confirmed that the shooter is dead.
