


The nation backs President Donald Trump’s anti-crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., and believes that it will reduce violent crime in the capital city, which will host America’s 250th birthday next year.
While controversial in Washington, where Trump’s actions have been met with protests and praise, 53% of likely voters told Rasmussen Reports that they support the president’s decision to have National Guard and federal officers help local police curb crime.

And half, by a 50%–45% margin, believe that the president’s action will reduce violent crime.
Overall, America’s voters are concerned about crime despite claims by Democrats that it’s not a big problem.

Rasmussen said that when asked if violent crime is “getting better or worse” in America, 35% said worse, 29% said better, and 31% believe it is staying the same.
The president took action this month after several high-profile attacks on Washingtonians, including one on a Department of Government Efficiency official. The city has been plagued by assaults and carjackings in popular areas.

The city has claimed that crime is down, but whistleblowers have charged that Washington is fiddling with statistics to make the situation look better than it is. The Justice Department is investigating those charges.
There have been several organized protests against Trump and his policies, but reports have also found citizens who feel the city is safer with a higher police presence on the streets.
