NextImg:Majority of likely voters think ‘cheating’ won Georgia for Biden in 2020

Former President Donald Trump was indicted last week on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. The state went to President Joe Biden in the election, but Trump’s campaign allegedly tried to influence state officials to deny Biden won the state and instead claim there was voter fraud. Yet despite the indictments, a majority of voters believed that it was “corrupt public officials” and not actual votes that won the state for Biden.

According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 51% of “likely voters” felt that Biden won Georgia due to illegal tactics deployed by corrupt public officials. These voters believed that it was cheating that propelled Biden to victory in the state and not that he legitimately obtained more votes. This included 31% of voters who felt Biden’s victory was “very likely” due to cheating. Conversely, the poll revealed that 41% of voters believed Biden legitimately won the state, including 28% who said cheating to the top was “not at all likely.”

The poll indicates the country’s political divide with nearly a 50-50 split. However, perhaps most importantly, it also showed a lack of faith by voters in the country’s elected officials. It is very troubling because if the people believe that the elected officials who run the country are dishonest and corrupt, this threatens the nation’s sustainability.

For example, consider comments made by Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows. Regarding the charges in Georgia, Meadows said they are “precisely the kind of state interference in a federal official’s duties that the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution prohibits.” Meadows was one of 18 other people who worked closely with Trump during the 2020 election and its aftermath. Others included Trump’s former legal counsel, Rudy Giuliani, and Jenna Ellis.

According to Rasmussen, 57% of voters agreed with Meadows’s claim, including 37% of people who “strongly agreed.” Comparatively, only 27% disagreed, including 20% who “strongly disagreed. The polls also revealed that 16% were unsure if they agreed or disagreed with what Meadows said.

Polling percentages aside, there have not been any legitimate developments in claims that fraud or corruption caused Trump to lose Georgia to Biden. After the defeat, it was natural to want to believe such a thing happened. Heck, as someone who detests Biden, I wanted to believe it was true. I was hoping evidence would be found and that it would be declared that Biden lost. I waited and waited, but nothing happened. And nearly three years after the fact, not much has changed.

It should be brought to the public’s attention if anything legitimate is discovered that would support such notions or vindicate those who claimed there was cheating. If that happens, then everyone involved should be held accountable. However, until such time, we must move forward and acknowledge Biden won the state and the election and regroup for 2024 so he doesn’t win again, no matter what tactics may or may not have been used in his victory.
