French President Emmanuel Macron was captured on video walking the streets of New York City, seemingly blocked by President Donald Trump’s motorcade.

Marine One landed in New York City’s Wall Street landing zone at 8 p.m. Monday. Trump traveled in a motorcade from Wall Street to Trump Tower shortly after. Until Trump arrived, the New York Police Department had blocked off the roads to allow the motorcade by.

Macron was recorded speaking to a NYPD officer, who told the French President: “I’m really sorry, everything’s been frozen right now there’s a motorcade coming right now.”

“If you don’t see it,” Macron tells the officer, “let me cross.”

In another clip, Macron is seen on the phone.

“How are you?” Macron says into the phone. “Guess what? I’m waiting in the street because everything is closed for you.”

Subsequent clips show Macron walking on the street while still holding the phone to his ear. Passersby stopped Macron to take pictures with him.

Trump arrived at the United Nations headquarters just before 10 a.m. Tuesday to deliver a message to the General Assembly. Afterward, Trump is slated to meet with Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. Then a reception will follow on Tuesday night with over 100 world leaders.

This motorcade arrived hours after Macron announced to the United Nations General Assembly that France has recognized Palestine as a state. France followed the United Kingdom and Canada, who have made similar announcements in the days leading up to the assembly.

A White House official told the Washington Examiner that Trump administration personnel were concerned about the repercussions that recognition would have on the stalled negotiations to release the remaining hostages Hamas is holding in the Gaza Strip.

“As the president stated, he would be rewarding Hamas and would be hindering efforts to bring home the hostages if he recognizes a Palestinian state, and he doesn’t think they should be rewarded, so he is not going to do that,” the source said.

Hamas referred to the recognition of Palestinian statehood as a “victory” since its initial attack on Southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
