Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is urging House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to erect a statue of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the Capitol.
A gunman assassinated Kirk on Wednesday as he spoke to students at a Utah university.

Luna penned a letter to Johnson signed by 11 other House Republicans, writing that Kirk’s legacy has granted him a statue in the Capitol.
“To honor this legacy, we call upon you to direct that a statue of Charlie Kirk be placed in the United States Capitol. This is not a symbolic gesture, but a permanent testament to his life’s work, his courage, and his sacrifice,” they wrote.
The letter was co-signed by Reps. Andy Ogles (R-TN), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), Barry Moore (R-AL), Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Mary Miller (R-IL), Michael Rulli (R-OH), Jefferson Van Drew (R-NJ), and Pat Fallon (R-TX).
Luna said in an accompanying social media post that she owes her “entire political career to Charlie Kirk.” She worked for Turning Point USA before becoming a member of Congress.
“I would quite literally not be in office today if it weren’t for him. Even when my own party was working against me, Charlie endorsed me and campaigned to help me win [the] election,” she wrote on X.
Statues in the Capitol are usually reserved for cultural and political icons. Figures like preacher Billy Graham, songwriter Johnny Cash, and the first president, George Washington, have statues erected of them within the Capitol.

Kirk is credited with drawing a youth movement into the Republican Party and assisting President Donald Trump to his second term in office. Democrats like Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) agreed about Kirk’s influence within the party, as the governor invited him and other prominent MAGA voices onto his podcast.
The late 31-year-old once told the New York Times that he wanted to “transform the culture” of America and the Republican Party. With a statue in the Capitol, he could maintain a physical presence at the pinnacle of politics.
