The news that Louisiana State University women’s basketball player Hailey Van Lith had entered the transfer portal was met with support.
Van Lith played a single season with the LSU Tigers before she announced her plans to transfer. She previously played for Louisville. The option to transfer comes just as Van Lith became eligible for the WNBA, which her fellow teammate Angel Reese entered the league’s draft.
Reese posted a photo of herself with Van Lith on her Instagram story with the caption, “love you killa,” amid the news.
“Thank you for everything this year,” LSU Coach Joe Schwarts wrote to Van Lith on X. “Thank you for being a leader, thank you for your work ethic and thank you for joining the LSU family. Going to miss those early mornings and late nights in the gym—but I know your future is bright. Family for Life.”
Rapper Boosie Badazz found himself issuing an apology to Van Lith after his social media rant about her final performance with the Tigers. He suggested LSU do some “serious recruiting next year” because “our white girl was scared to death of [Caitlin] Clark” in reference to Van Lith’s defensive play of the University of Iowa player. His post has since been deleted.
“Hey, I want to apologize to Hailey Van Lith,” Boosie said in a subsequent Instagram video, where he implied he’d bet “a bag” on the game. “That’s my bad. I got in my feelings. I really wanted y’all to win, man.”

During Van Lith’s last game, she defended against Clark, who was named the 2024 NCAA Player of the Year. Clark scored 41 points that game, which caused the LSU Tigers to lose in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Hawkeyes will be competing for the national championship Sunday against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
