Liverpool fans responded to the U.K. national anthem with boos louder than the music on Saturday.

Liverpool was playing against Brentford on the same day that the coronation of King Charles III happened in Westminster Abbey. The move was meant to honor the new king's crowning, though fans reacted as they typically do: booing anything establishment. Fans carried anti-monarchy signs and others were captured on videos on social media shouting obscenities about the new king.

Fans have a long-held reputation of being anti-government, and it is a tradition to boo when the national anthem is played. The obscenities and boos were not meant as a direct attack on Charles or the British royal family.

During the Football Association cup in May of last year, Prince William was also met with boos when fans discovered he was in attendance. Liverpool won the Saturday game against Brentford one to zero.
