Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that the United States is living on "borrowed time" due to the impacts of an open southern border, stating that he would support additional funding to address the issue.

While appearing on CNN's State of the Union, Graham was asked about a recent military aid package worth nearly $14.5 billion that the House of Representatives approved for Israel, which will likely not pass the Senate due to withholding aid for Ukraine. Yet, Graham noted that a bill including funding for border security, Ukraine, and Israel would pass.

"I think you’ll have a bill that will have border security," Graham said. "It would be insane not to fix our broken border. It's just, you know, we’re living on borrowed time in terms of the border being broken and an attack on our own nation."

Graham also stated that the U.S. should not withhold funding from Ukraine going forward, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin should not "get away" with attacking Ukraine, as China attacking Taiwan could happen if the U.S. ceases support.

The southern border has been a major focus for Republican lawmakers, with many citing safety concerns as the need to secure it. Newly released U.S. Customs and Border Protection data revealed that Border Patrol agents arrested 15,267 people in fiscal 2023 who had been convicted in court of carrying out a crime in the United States or another country.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) claimed that the Biden administration is twisting border policy in order to claim it is complying with the law and is "playing a word game with us."

“The first thing they are saying is the law is being complied with," Rubio said on Hannity. "What they’re arguing is that we have asylum law. Someone crosses, they claim asylum, the law says we have to let them in and stay until they get a court hearing that many don’t show up for. So, they’re arguing they are following the law.”
