Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot conducted an investigation that found Dolton, Illinois, “Super Mayor” Tiffany Henyard’s administration has been covering up excessive expenses.

Lightfoot was hired last year to investigate the village’s finances amid accusations of excessive spending. According to a report, Lightfoot’s investigation not only found that hundreds of thousands of dollars had gone missing but that the administration attempted to cover up the missing money.

“Beginning at least as early as late 2021, there was a concerted, systematic effort on behalf of Mayor Henyard and others in her administration to hide the true financial condition of the Village of Dolton from the trustees and from members of the public,” Lightfoot said, according to the report.

Lightfoot found that hundreds of thousands of dollars issued to Dolton as part of the American Rescue Plan have gone missing and that Henyard failed to appoint an official to keep track of the funds, a requirement by the U.S. Treasury Department. There are also no receipts as to what happened to the money, according to the report.

In 2023, the village spent $779,638 on its credit card, with “no accompanying receipt, and the statements alone provide limited information about the purchases,” according to the report.

This comes after a report that Henyard spent $85,000 on one party, with two musical guests providing one hour of entertainment.

“That was a flop,” an attendee later said of the sparsely attended gathering.

Henyard, sometimes dubbed “America’s worst mayor” by her opponents, has been accused of retaliation and was found in contempt of court after agreeing to sign liquor licenses and failing to do so.

Lightfoot lost her bid for a second term as Chicago mayor in 2023, leading to a runoff election in which current Mayor Brandon Johnson prevailed.

Henyard is running for reelection in Dolton, and the primary will be held on Feb. 25.
