Conservative radio and television host Mark Levin said on Sunday evening that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's comments defending FBI Director Christopher Wray is proof the 2024 presidential candidate "ought not to be president."

Levin's comments come after Christie stated on Wednesday that Wray was a "good guy" who could fix a lot of the problems in the FBI and who has "already fixed" a lot of problems. Wray recently attended a House hearing on his alleged weaponization of the bureau, and has been criticized by many in the Republican Party.

"Christopher Wray gave testimony last week for five hours," Levin said. "In five hours, we learned nothing from the man, he plays rope-a-dope, he obstructs, and he is intellectually dishonest, if not worse. And I don’t care that Chris Christie vouches for him, that demonstrates Chris Christie has his own issues, and he ought not to be president of the United States. The FBI is out of control."

Earlier this month, Christie was asked directly what he thought of Wray, with most of his Republican opponents running for the presidential nomination having promised to fire Wray if they're elected. The former governor did not give a direct answer on firing the FBI director.

"The fact is that these other folks in the race, they just are looking for a scapegoat," Christie said. "They want to blame anybody. I will tell them who to blame. Blame Joe Biden and Merrick Garland, who have not provided the type of leadership in the country or at the Justice Department that you need."

Former President Donald Trump, who is also running for president in 2024, has blamed Christie for appointing Wray as the director of the FBI. In an excerpt from an interview with Trump on Sunday, the former president admitted that it was a mistake hiring the FBI director, but clarified that he only did so on the strong urging of Christie.

Christie and Trump are both running for president in the 2024 Republican nomination race. Other candidates in the race include former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, political commentator Larry Elder, businessman Perry Johnson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
