During the White House press briefing Monday, Washington Post journalist Cleve Wootson Jr. revealed the Left’s real motivation: A seething hatred of the First Amendment to the Constitution. Wootson, who bears as much resemblance to a real journalist as I do the king of England, implored the White House to censor what he called “misinformation” regarding Monday night’s online conversation between former President Donald Trump and X owner Elon Musk.
“What role does the White House or the president have in sort of stopping that or stopping the spread of that or sort of intervening in that?” Wootson asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “Some of that was about campaign misinformation, but, you know, it’s a wider thing, right?”
His infantile grasp of the English language aside, Wootson explicitly called for the regime to censor its political opponents. Democracy dies in darkness, indeed.
Instead of being horrified by the crackdowns on free speech happening right now across the United Kingdom, journalists in the United States are watching with envy as jackbooted thugs arrest peaceful citizens for thought crimes. Instead of supporting real journalists in their mission to hold the powerful accountable to the people, corporate journalists side with the censorious oligarchs at every turn.
The same journalists calling for the censorship of the Right spent the entirety of President Joe Biden’s time in office hiding his obvious senility from the public until the Democratic Party standard-bearer’s affliction became electorally problematic for them. Vice President Kamala Harris became the de facto Democratic nominee 24 days ago and has yet to be asked a single question of importance by a journalist, a trend that will likely continue until after the election.
Time magazine even wrote a slobbering, sycophantic cover story for the Harris campaign despite the fact that she insulted the publication by refusing what would almost certainly have been the easiest softball interview in the history of modern Western media.
The Harris-Walz ticket, by far the most radically far-left ticket in several decades, is openly hostile to the First Amendment.
“There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech and especially around our democracy,” Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), Harris’s running mate, told MSNBC.

Harris praised Big Tech companies for censoring Trump in 2020, going so far that hard-left Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) pushed back, saying she only wanted to “kick Trump out of the White House, not off of social media.”
In an alternate universe where the word “journalism” still implies anything close to its original definition, journalists would be excoriating authoritarian Democrats for their hatred of free speech, but our corporate journalists are not the firefighters. They are the arsonists. It is up to the citizens of this country to keep the First Amendment alive — a quest that is diametrically opposed to those who purportedly exercise their First Amendment rights for a living.
