While some abortion activists physically attack pregnancy resource centers by committing arson and vandalism , other less violent methods are being used to hinder the work of these pro-life nonprofit organizations.

Pregnancy resource centers, sometimes called pregnancy help centers or crisis pregnancy centers, are charitable organizations that help pregnant mothers and families avoid abortion and choose life.

Some locations may provide pregnancy tests and simple material support such as diapers, baby clothes, and formula, while others provide counseling, job training, and parenting classes. There are other, related entities such as maternity homes that provide housing and supportive services for pregnant mothers and their children.

Yet there are efforts from Big Tech, politicians, and legacy media to harm these groups that provide low-cost or free services to help families choose life and either raise their children in a healthy environment or place them for adoption.

One pregnancy center in Iowa said that Google and Yelp have hidden its results and then added a label to scare away pregnant women. One Yelp warning added to the Women’s Choice Center in Iowa says the location only offers “limited medical services” and may not use “licensed medical professionals.”

Google also hid the center from search results for women looking for information on abortion. A key way pregnancy help centers reach out to women in need is by running advertisements and using search engine optimization to connect with those most likely to choose abortion.

While Big Tech silences within the private sector, political efforts work to use the weight of the government to stop these pro-life nonprofit organizations.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, for example, issued a “ consumer alert ” about the pro-life centers in the state, the same type of warning expected for payday lenders or unscrupulous used car dealers.

Former Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, now the state’s governor, issued a similar warning in her capacity in July. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) thanked Healey for “crack[ing] down on these deceptive organizations.”

Minnesota legislators are also working on a bill that would prohibit money from the state’s pregnancy support program from going to organizations that help women choose life, a direct attack on pregnancy centers.

The legacy media has joined the movement as well. The Associated Press changed its guidelines so that reporters will now call these pro-life nonprofit organizations “anti-abortion centers.” It is obvious that the goal is to equate these centers with only political opposition to abortion, and not helping mothers choose life and a holistic approach to improving their lives.

Pregnancy centers provided $266 million in services in 2019, according to a report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute. This includes the value of pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and materials such as diapers and car seats.

This aid went to over 1 million individuals, including over 960,000 new clients and hundreds of thousands more who took parenting classes or received other assistance.

Pro-life groups also provide intangible benefits to pregnant mothers and their families; they offer people who are there to listen to concerns and direct those in need toward further help. For the teenage mother or the young couple living on the edge of poverty, pro-life centers provide people who want to support and help them live a healthy and prosperous life.

Pro-abortion activists, politicians, media, and corporations need to back off of these life-saving centers and allow them to continue to help men and women every day.
