An armed man had entered the location and attempted to rob the employee working the counter when a legally armed customer shot the gunman multiple times.
When the police officers reached the gas station, they discovered the suspect being held at gunpoint by a man, the report noted.
The suspect was treated for his injuries at a local hospital, and the customer who shot him was found to be in possession of a valid Michigan concealed pistol license.
An investigation into the shooting was conducted, but witness and victim testimony, video footage, and physical evidence all helped Cass County prosecutors determine that the shooting had been lawful and was conducted in self-defense and/or in the defense of others.
