Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) should be applauded for her efforts in getting Sergeant First Class William Montgomery recognized for a Purple Heart. Boebert came through for the combat veteran when the rest of the government failed Montgomery, a Colorado native, for years.
Montgomery was wounded in 2008 while deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Inexplicably, 15 years later, he had still not been recognized for the Purple Heart, the award given to combat veterans of the United States armed forces “who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.”

In what should only be described as a rebuke of the government’s incompetence and lack of appreciation for our combat veterans, Montgomery was unable to make any progress with his efforts to receive a Purple Heart. He previously contacted other elected officials to determine if his injuries were worthy of the medal, but no one was willing to help him.
But then Boebert got involved. Montgomery had contacted the congresswoman’s office for help; she was more than willing to assist. And, in just a couple of months, Boebert accomplished what no other person could: get Montgomery his Purple Heart.
“This Veterans Day, I was honored to recognize one of the many veterans who risked their lives for our country with a Purple Heart,” Boebert stated. “For years, Sergeant First Class William Montgomery had been trying to obtain the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It wasn’t until he contacted my office in July that we got the ball rolling.”
“The typical Purple Heart approval process takes upwards of a year; however, I made this one a top priority and got him approved for the award within just two months of contacting my office,” Boebert said.
Montgomery received his medal in a special ceremony held on Veterans Day. It was attended by Brigadier General Laura Clellan attended the event and acknowledged Montgomery’s sacrifice and unfortunate plight in the time it took him to receive his medal. Clellan also thanked Boebert for helping Montgomery get his Purple Heart, the Colorado Times Recorder reported.
“A Purple Heart means the service member has sustained injuries,” Clellan said. “The fact it took 15 years for William Montgomery, a highly dedicated soldier, should give us pause.”
It should undoubtedly give us pause. It’s an utter disgrace Montgomery had to wait that long. It’s a sad commentary on how the nation, and quite frankly, many of our elected leaders, take those who enlist in the military for granted. However, Boebert showed that she is not one of those people.
Her efforts to help Montgomery get his Purple Heart are indicative of the consistently excellent work Boebert has done on behalf of military veterans since she has been in office. It’s a feat that regularly gets ignored by the legacy media and her political adversaries seeking to sabotage her.

“We owe a debt to the millions of veterans who have faithfully served our country and risked their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today,” Boebert said.
Boebert deserves applause and praise for a job well done. In just a few months, she accomplished what the government that Sergeant First Class William Montgomery enlisted to protect failed to do for fifteen years. The congresswoman from Colorado got the job done when no one else in the nation’s government would.
