An inmate reportedly stabbed Larry Nassar, an ex-doctor convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts, over a crude comment he made while watching a televised Wimbledon tennis match.
Shane McMillan attacked Nassar in a Florida prison over the weekend after the former sports doctor allegedly said he wanted to see girls playing in the Wimbledon women’s tennis match, a source told the Associated Press. The incident took place Sunday night in Nassar’s cell, where there were no surveillance cameras to record the crime.

If McMillan is charged and convicted of stabbing Nassar, his sentence could be extended beyond May 2046, which is when he’s scheduled to be released from prison. McMillan is currently held in the U.S. Penitentiary Coleman in Florida.
The Bureau of Prisons, which operates the federal correctional facility, released a statement Wednesday to address the ongoing situation.
“The BOP takes seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody, as well as maintain the safety of correctional staff and the community,” agency spokesman Scott Taylor said.
Sunday’s attack was the second time Nassar has been assaulted in federal custody. He is serving decades in prison for sexually abusing athletes, including college and Olympic gymnastics stars, and possessing explicit images of children.
“We make every effort to ensure the physical safety of individuals confined to our facilities through a controlled environment that is secure and humane,” said Taylor. “As we continue to pivot out of a years-long pandemic, there are still challenges to confront and opportunities to improve our agency, protect the lives of those who work for us, and ensure the wellbeing of those entrusted to our custody.”
