No Labels National co-Chairman Larry Hogan was pessimistic about Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) launching a presidential campaign at all, let alone via his third party.

Hogan appeared on State of the Union Sunday to respond to the speculation of Manchin's next move. The former Democratic governor of Maryland admitted that Manchin "has been involved in No Labels for a long time."

"Look, one thing Joe Manchin's pretty good at is staying in the center of attention, and he definitely wants to continue, like I do, continue to be a part of the discussion," Hogan said. "But I’m not sure whether all this hype this week is going to turn into a presidential campaign or not, frankly."

Manchin announced he would not be running for reelection in the Senate earlier this week, which has left many to predict what the senator's next move will be. Hogan referred to the current front runners, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, as "really weak potential nominees."

"I’ll reiterate what I said earlier. We’re talking about a third party, what Joe Manchin and I or others might do, there are three candidates running as independents, and they're all Democrats, I don’t know why all of the focus is on No Labels," Hogan said. Host Dana Bash asked the chairman if he would like to add a No Labels candidate to the list, and he said no. Currently, the party has yet to put forward a candidate.

"I think Joe Manchin, and I, and others have said over and over again that we would not do this to be a spoiler," Hogan said. "We’d only be in it to win it."

Biden has two other Democratic opponents in author Marianne Williamson and Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), as they all seek the party's nomination ahead of the 2024 election.
