Republican National Committee co-Chairwoman Lara Trump suggested the criminal trial against former President Donald Trump “is not working” as his fundraising continues to rise.

Lara Trump appeared Wednesday on Fox News’s Hannity to discuss the latest fundraising numbers on her father-in-law’s campaign. Her report comes after the campaign already raised $1.5 million after the trial’s first day on Monday, when attorneys selected some of the jurors that will decide whether or not to convict Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

“We can all see exactly what this is about and what the goal of this is,” Lara Trump said. “Of course, it’s to keep Donald Trump from the campaign trail. They want him sitting in a courtroom in New York City. They’re going ahead, throwing it all out there to try and tarnish his name even further if they can with American voters, and, heck, if they can throw him in jail while they’re at it, it’s the cherry on top. The good news that we have on our side is it is not working ’cause I’m happy to report this evening that, in the three days since they have held Donald Trump in that courtroom, his campaign has raised $3 million. The average donation is $26.”

The former president is campaigning against President Joe Biden. While Donald Trump is facing a number of civil charges from prosecutors across the nation, this is the only one of his four criminal trials that could conclude before the Nov. 5 election.

“So there they have and are forcing Donald Trump to sit in a courtroom — this is a former president of the United States, the current nominee for the Republican side of the aisle for president — for weeks on end, for what, Sean?” Lara Trump said. “They claim a bookkeeping error, really? And to recoup $130,000? It costs more than $130,000 when they shut down the FDR and the Henry Hudson Parkway for 30 minutes in New York City. They lose far more than that. This is insane.”

The fundraising report follows a reported $90 million fundraising haul for Biden in March. His campaign raised $187 million in the first quarter and began the second quarter with $192 million in cash on hand. Still, his most successful fundraising day generated $26 million at a New York City event that featured former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Meanwhile, the RNC and Trump raised $65.6 million in March. Earlier this month, Trump hosted a fundraiser that fetched $50.5 million, a record for a single political fundraiser. The latest donations only continue to close the gap between the two presumptive nominees.
