NextImg:Lack of ‘authenticity’ is just one problem Democratic Party faces: Joe Concha

The Washington Examiner‘s Joe Concha argued that the Democratic Party lacks an “authentic” candidate to win back voters, which he said would be hard to find since authenticity is “organic.”

The Democratic Party’s soul-searching has been ongoing since President Donald Trump won a second term in the White House, with some saying a “masculine, based” candidate could be the remedy to the party’s ailment. In response, Concha poked fun at recognizable faces in the Democratic Party, such as former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg or Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), who are not the “masculine guy that they’re looking for.” He said the party can’t simply “create a candidate” who is masculine.

“The Democratic Party needs an authentic candidate, it doesn’t matter what the person looks like in terms of masculinity or sounds like,” Concha said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends First. “Authenticity is something that you don’t just produce or just create. It’s something that’s natural. It’s organic. So perhaps in the end, this party is going to have to go with a more celebrity or performative candidate like AOC or Stephen A. Smith, and they’re going to lose big time regardless because in the end, this is a party that — I don’t care what the candidate looks like, how masculine that person is. This is the party that needs to go to the center.”

Concha then joked that the Democratic Party is similar to Thelma and Louise of the 1991 film Thelma & Louise because its policies are like “driving off that cliff to a hard left.” He said the party needs to take “the right side of common sense issues,” reiterating that it does not matter what a candidate looks or sounds like if they choose to take this stance.

During his appearance, Concha promoted his new book, The Greatest Comeback Ever: Inside Trump’s Big Beautiful Campaign. He said during a 40-minute interview with Trump, he learned new details about the first assassination attempt against Trump on July 13, including why “exactly” the president got up and shouted “fight, fight, fight!” after being shot in the ear.

“It’s something that I wouldn’t do in that situation, I’d say ‘get me the hell out of here, I mean, you know, I just got shot,’” Concha said. “Instead, the president stood up like you see in that picture, and did exactly what he did for a very good reason.”

As of Monday morning, Concha’s book is in third place on Amazon’s bestselling book list ahead of its Tuesday release. The hardcover, Audible, and Kindle versions all take up the top three spots on Amazon’s elections section.

Concha’s book release falls on Trump’s one hundredth day in office, which the president is celebrating by holding a rally in Michigan
