The revelation that schools are teaching students radical left-wing political indoctrination was an unintended consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. With children forced into remote learning, parents began to hear the abhorrent topics the education system was covering instead of the appropriate and necessary subjects such as math, science, and English. Throughout the country, many parents discovered what conservatives and Republicans have been shouting for years: Schools are indoctrinating, not educating. Yet, schools routinely try to hide this from parents.
The latest example of this appears to be the Los Angeles Unified School District, which is being sued by Harmeet Dhillon’s Center for American Liberty because of the district’s alleged failure “to comply with California’s Public Records Act.” A lawsuit filed on March 19 details the district’s persistent inability to comply with a request for public records for materials from the district’s curriculum pertaining to “transgenderism, Critical Race Theory, Ethnic Studies, Intersectionality, diversity, and inclusion,” among many other topics regularly forced on students by left-wing sociopolitical activists and educational aristocrats.
The initial request for these materials was made by a petitioner on Aug. 30, 2022, according to court records. CAL’s lawsuit stems from “multiple instances where LAUSD failed to provide requested documents within the mandated time frame or at all.”
“Despite CAL’s diligent efforts to work with LAUSD in good faith, the district repeatedly fell short of its legal obligations under the CPRA,” read a press release from CAL.
An integral part of the lawsuit concerned documents regarding “gender support plans” and the maintenance of student records that were not “adequately addressed or fulfilled” by the school district, according to a press release. The district asserted it would comply with these requests by a specific date but failed to provide the requested information, which was “a clear breach of its duty under the PRA.”
“We are deeply concerned by LAUSD’s repeated failure to comply with California’s Public Records Act, which undermines transparency and accountability in government,” Dhillon, CEO and founder of the Center for American Liberty, said. “This lawsuit is not just about obtaining documents; it’s about upholding the public’s right to access critical information and ensuring that government agencies are held accountable for their actions.”

Another important part of the lawsuit stems from email communication between June and August 2023, during which LAUSD failed to review or provide “responsive documents, despite being provided with reasonable requests to narrow down the scope of the search,” CAL claimed in a press release.
Rules exist for a reason, and according to CAL, the LAUSD is not following those rules. Numerous red flags should be raised over the district’s failure to comply with these requests. It’s arguably indicative of the corruption that plagues many of the schools throughout the country and raises legitimate questions about what the district is trying to hide from the public. The Center for American Liberty should be commended for its efforts and determination in holding the Los Angeles Unified School District accountable.
