Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) said she doesn't see a "path for victory" for any Republican presidential candidate but former President Donald Trump in a recent interview on local radio.

"President Trump is in the race and right now I don't see a path for victory with anybody else with him in the race and the situation as it sits today," she told South Dakota radio station KWAT.

The governor stopped short of endorsing Trump, however. Asked if she would be making an endorsement at all, Noem said, "No. I don't think so."

Her office further clarified to the Washington Examiner that her comments on Trump's position in the race were not an endorsement.

When asked about launching a presidential run of her own, the South Dakota governor said she's staying focused on her own state for now.

"Wouldn't that be interesting? If there were South and North Dakota governors running for president?" Noem asked, referencing Gov. Doug Burgum's (R-ND) dark horse candidacy. "But no, I — right now, I'm still focused on South Dakota."

Burgum is polling at 0% with potential Republican primary voters according to Morning Consult, while Trump maintains a healthy lead among competitors, at 57%.

Noem said Burgum is a "great guy," but she admitted that she refused to endorse him when he asked her to.

She revealed that the North Dakota governor had texted her, asking for her support. He even joked, "You always need to remember, we have protected you from Canada for 137 years."

"He's a good guy and he's working hard," she said.

Despite her earlier analysis of the Republican primary race, Noem said, "I think people should battle up. It can be a roller coaster of a presidential race.

"I know there's a lot of unknowns and the person that may win may not even be in the race yet," she suggested.
