NextImg:Kristi Noem confirms ICE will be at the Superbowl

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will be “all over” the Super Bowl, after Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny was announced as the halftime show performer.

“We’ll be all over that place, and I can. We’re going to enforce the law, so I think people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless they are law-abiding Americans who love this country,” Noem told conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.

The NFL faced backlash from conservatives after it announced Bad Bunny, a three-time Grammy winner whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, would headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in Santa Clara, California.

The Puerto Rican musician confirmed that he omitted the United States from his world tour because of concerns about ICE raids at his shows, after he was asked about it in an interview with i-D Magazine last month.

“But there was the issue of — like, f***ing ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” he said in an interview in September.

The Department of Homeland Security announced in September that two million illegal immigrants were removed or have self-deported since Jan. 20.

Noem said it’s her responsibility to ensure safety at the Super Bowl and that ICE agents will be present.

“I have the responsibility to make sure everybody who goes to the Super Bowl has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave safely. That’s what America’s about,” Noem said.

When asked if the decision by the NFL was a message to the Trump administration, Noem said the NFL “sucks” and that “we’ll win.”

“God will bless us, and we’ll stand and be proud of ourselves at the end of the day,” Noem said. “And they won’t be able to sleep at night because they don’t know what they believe. They’re so weak. We’ll fix it.”

Noem’s comments come after Trump advisor Corey Lewandowski warned that ICE agents would be present at the game.

“There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally,” Lewandowski said on The Benny Show last week. “Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility and deport you. Know that this is a very real situation under this administration, which is contrary to how it used to be.”

Executives at the NFL and Apple Music said Bad Bunny’s performance will be “unforgettable” in a press release announcing the halftime show performer.

“Bad Bunny represents the global energy and cultural vibrancy that define today’s music scene. As one of the most influential and streamed artists in the world, his unique ability to bridge genres, languages, and audiences makes him an exciting and natural choice to take the Super Bowl halftime stage,” Senior Vice President of Global Event Production for the NFL Jon Barker said in the press release.

The Washington Examiner contacted the NFL for comment.
