A feminist movement that took over South Korea in 2017 is trending among American social media users following Tuesday’s election.
Many supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris referred to her loss on Tuesday as a loss for women. That sparked a discussion behind the 4B movement, in which South Korean women denied men dating, sex, marriage, and children. The “B” is in reference to the Korean prefix for “no.”
“Right now is a good time to start a 4B movement. let male loneliness actually become an epidemic since they hate women so much,” one user wrote on X.
“Ladies, we need to start considering the 4B movement like the women in South Korea and give America a severely sharp birth rate decline,” another wrote. “… We can’t let these men have the last laugh… we need to bite back.”
Another user reshared a TikTok post on the topic, which was one of many. The caption to the video reads, “The 4B movement better be in effect. want the world to listen… start decreasing their population and economy. there’s no country to run if the birth rates start decreasing. don’t give in until they start listening. then they will start to panic.”
Still, others mocked the movement, as many women voted for Harris’s opponent, President-elect Donald Trump, and would likely not follow the campaign strictly enough for it to take effect. There was only an 11-point gap between female Harris voters and female Trump voters this cycle.
“Who knew we could end abortions with unstable, angry women pledging to join the 4B movement and stop having sex?” Students for Life President Kirstan Hawkins wrote.
“I’ll never understand how liberal women are so traumatized as to start the 4B movement when the women in Afghanistan literally have less rights than a dog,” U.S. College Republicans press secretary Macy Gunnell wrote.
