Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) announced her husband of 41 years, Kevin Reynolds, has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

The Hawkeye State governor said she is "optimistic" about her husband's ability to recover from the diagnosis thanks to advanced treatments in a statement on Thursday.

“We’re grateful to the incredible medical team caring for Kevin. Our doctor has assured us that significant advancements in lung cancer treatment have been very effective and we have every reason to be optimistic," Kim Reynolds said. "We are confident in our team as we begin treatment, and we will beat this together."

“Kevin has been my anchor throughout our 41 years of marriage, and I will be the same for him as he begins treatment. We are blessed to be surrounded by a loving family and a community of prayer warriors. We know God is with us on this journey,” she added.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), an ally of the Iowa governor, shared his support for her and her husband by saying he and his wife, Casey, know "firsthand" how difficult cancer diagnoses can be, referring to his wife's battle with breast cancer.

"Casey and I are praying for Governor [Kim Reynolds] and Kevin as they set out to defeat his announced diagnosis. As we have experienced firsthand, battling cancer is not an easy fight but prayers and support from the people around you raises your chances of success. We intend to provide that support to Kim and Kevin," DeSantis posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Kevin Reynolds previously worked in various jobs concerning soil and water conservation, working for the Department of Agriculture for a time.

Kim and Kevin Reynolds were married in 1982 and are the parents of three daughters and have 11 grandchildren, according to the governor's office.
