Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's attorneys are moving to dismiss all articles of impeachment against him.

The motions were filed before the deadline on Saturday, but they were made public on Monday, the Texas Tribune reported. The Republican attorney general's individual motions to dismiss 19 of the 20 articles of impeachment were made known over the weekend, but his attorneys went a step further in moving to dismiss the impeachment entirely. Paxton's attorneys accused the House impeachment managers of attempting to subvert democracy, using “any means necessary” to “overturn the will of voters.”

They also filed several more individual filings, looking to dismiss individual articles of impeachment. In one such filing looking to dismiss the article dealing with asking the state government to pay for his whistleblower settlement, the attorneys accused the House impeachment managers of having “done violence to our democracy” by impeaching him over a "routine" function of his job.

The House impeachment managers will have until Aug. 15 to respond in writing to every motion.

The motions will then go to the Senate for a vote, allowing the Republican-dominated Senate a second chance at rejecting the Trump ally's impeachment. Just 16 of the 19 Republicans' votes are needed, though most had previously voted to impeach.

Both the motions to dismiss individual articles and to dismiss the impeachment entirely will be voted on.

Paxton is being impeached over accusations of bribery, obstruction of justice, and misappropriation of public resources. Most of these are centered on whistleblower accusations of misconduct in an investigation into a friend and political donor of the attorney general.
