Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway contended that the longer the GOP presidential candidates list gets, the better it is for former President Donald Trump.

Conway’s comments come as Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) are set to announce their candidacies this week. Former South Carolina governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, political newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson have also declared their 2024 election bids.

“The more the merrier is probably Donald Trump’s anthem,” Conway told The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton, brushing off any concern that a crowded Republican primary field could hurt the former president’s chance at reelection.

“He is the front-runner, beating his closest competitor Ron DeSantis,” Conway said, noting his lead in national polling. “Competition benefits him because he loves competition.”

The latest polling shows Trump holding a favorability lead over DeSantis by a margin of 53.5% to 20.8%.

Conway added that Trump is also set to benefit from a crowded GOP field because of the number of “winner takes all” Republican primary states.

“There are now 17 winner-takes-all primary states on the Republican side. There were seven in 2016,” Conway said. “He is a winner-take-all type of guy. He can get 30%, 32%, maybe 25%, if there are all these candidates, and take every single delegate.”

She also suggested that there is only one possible strategy for beating Trump.

“If you don’t want Donald Trump to be the nominee, you have a choice to make,” Conway said. “You either run against him hammer and tong, square on, or you don’t run at all because too many people will dilute it.”

Aside from the current GOP primary field, Conway said the Republican Party has a “very deep and strong bench,” making the outlook, even ahead to 2028, hopeful.
