Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo just won’t go away. Neither will the damage he caused in New York, nor his reputation of personal and professional failings.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic published its final report on Monday, which included finding that Cuomo knowingly and willfully made false statements” to the subcommittee “on numerous occasions about New York nursing home deaths. The subcommittee also referred Cuomo to the Justice Department for prosecution, concluding that Cuomo’s nursing home death cover-up was malpractice.

TRUMP CABINET PICKS: WHO’S BEEN TAPPED TO SERVE IN THE PRESIDENT-ELECT’S ADMINISTRATION

Cuomo had ordered nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients and barred them from requiring negative tests for admission. When that predictably led to a surge in nursing home deaths from elderly people, who were most at risk from the virus, Cuomo’s Health Department reclassified thousands of nursing home deaths as hospital deaths, under the logic that they died in the hospital and not the nursing home where they contracted the virus, an obvious attempt to obfuscate the effects of Cuomo’s decisions.

The subcommittee report isn’t the result of a partisan witch hunt, either, as Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James found way back in 2021 that Cuomo had undercounted nursing home deaths by as much as 50%. That was back when Cuomo was the liberal media’s golden boy. He was gifted an Emmy by Hollywood elites for his COVID-19 press briefings, praised as the foil to President-elect Donald Trump, and exploited the pandemic to sell a book about how great he is. We’ve known this for years, and the subcommittee’s report and referral for prosecution is a reminder of just how damaging Cuomo’s “leadership” was.

This reminder is necessary because Cuomo has refused to go away after his sexual harassment scandal ran him out of office. Like any other wretched politician who has devoted their lives to politics, Cuomo is looking for his next opportunity to grab power, circling the New York City mayoral race. Cuomo is already trying to position himself as a more moderate Democrat, butting heads with Gov. Kathy Hochul (who replaced him after his sexual harassment scandal) and trying to position himself as the pro-Israel candidate for when he inevitably launches his campaign.

Andrew Cuomo’s constant pursuit of fame and political power infects his decision-making. He shouldn’t be elected to any political office, let alone to the mayor’s office of the nation’s biggest city. No one should ever be subjected to Cuomo’s “leadership” and fatal decisions again.
