Washington Examiner’s Restoring America editor Kaylee McGhee White pointed out that sanctuary cities could be deemed “insurrectionary” if they go to the extreme to prevent deportations.
Since voters made Donald Trump the winner of the election, Democratic mayors have already revealed their plan to protect their sanctuary status by defending the immigrants living among them. However, border security was a top priority for all voters, especially those who live in these sanctuary cities.

“What we need to start asking ourselves of the sanctuary cities and states is why are they refusing to allow the federal government to reform enforce immigration law? Some might actually call that insurrectionary,” McGhee White said on Fox News’s America Reports Wednesday. “At the very least, you are defying the will of the American public. There’s a reason why all of these major blue urban areas this past election, including New York City, swung to the right in favor of Donald Trump. Significantly, I might add. It’s because of illegal immigration. It is because the border crisis has been ravaging these blue cities.”
Trump made New York City a focus during his campaign, and while it did not pay off in any electoral votes, it helped him perform better in the city. He won almost 27% of the vote in the Bronx, compared to his 9% there in 2016. While Harris won roughly 81% of Manhattan’s votes and 68% of New York City’s votes, she underperformed Joe Biden in 2020 in every borough, while Trump improved from his last bid.

According to Trump’s border czar Tom Homan, there are already an estimated 1.3 million immigrants with deportation orders that some leaders are protecting. Homan says once Trump is inaugurated, these will be his first target, and he has threatened to arrest leaders who stand in his way.
A report from Blueprint found that nearly a quarter of voters ranked the border as their top issue of the Nov. 5 election. It was in the top three issues voters had overall in choosing Trump over Harris.
