The Washington Examiner's Kaylee McGhee White praised the new hit song "Rich Men North of Richmond," noting the song's message has resonated with many people in the United States.
The song, performed by Oliver Anthony, has been heralded by many conservatives for its messaging that is directed at the nation's leaders and lawmakers, with the lyrics implying that the titular characters are the politicians in Washington, D.C. White, an op-ed writer for the Washington Examiner, stated that the song's sentiment regarding the idea of "living in a new world with an old soul" appeals to many across the country.

"If you want to work hard and just pay your bills, raise your kids according to your values?" White said on Hannity. "Well too bad, the Biden administration is also going to force you to pay off the student loan debt of college graduates who decided that they didn’t wanna pay their debt anymore. It’s also going to force you to buy an electric vehicle. It’s going to restrict your use of a gas stove. You want to send your kids to a good school? Well too bad, they’re going to get their heads filled with nonsense about sex and gender that no one believed until two seconds ago. You want to live according to your faith, you want to be a practicing Christian? Too bad, you’re going to be forced to bake a cake."
"Rich Men North of Richmond" was released on YouTube earlier this month and has garnered over 17 million views and over 884,000 likes on the platform. Anthony thanked his fans for the praise his song has received and asked them to think about what steps they can take to help unify their communities and country.
"These rich men north of Richmond / Lord knows they all just want to have total control / Wanna know what you think / Wanna know what you do / And they don't think you know, but I know that you do," the song's lyrics read. "Cause your dollar ain't s***, and it's taxed to no end / 'Cause of rich men north of Richmond."

The singer performed live in front of a massive crowd Sunday. Along with the live performance, Anthony streamed the event, which has been viewed over 100,000 times, on Rumble.
Journalist Megyn Kelly is one of the many people who has praised Anthony's new song, noting in a recent episode of her podcast The Megyn Kelly Show that the song resonates with people who see those in power break the law and "sit back laughing at us" for how they are able to avoid facing any serious consequences. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a guest on Kelly's podcast, stated that many people in the U.S. do not trust the people in leadership, and that Anthony, with his new song, is "cutting through and telling the truth in a way that you very seldom have people do."
