NextImg:Kathy Griffin alludes to Trump severed head controversy as cause of 'extreme case' of PTSD

Comedian Kathy Griffin revealed to her followers that she has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, further claiming that the ordeal began five and a half years ago, right around the time she posed with a fake bloody, severed head that bore a striking resemblance to then-president Donald Trump.

"Let's talk about PTSD. Never talked about it publicly," she said in the video posted to TikTok last week. "You can laugh or whatever, but I've been diagnosed with complex PTSD, and it's called an extreme case."

"If any of you know my story, you'll understand that this really started for me about five and a half years ago. Wink," Griffin said, seemingly referencing the controversial post she made in 2017.

Soon after the photograph was posted, CNN ended its deal with the comedian. Griffin had co-anchored the Channel's New Year's Eve special alongside Anderson Cooper since 2007. She was later replaced by television host Andy Cohen.

@kathygriffin Never talked about this publicly. I have lots of tools, but it is extremely intense. I ve never experienced anything like this in my life. Further, a reported 25 theaters canceled scheduled shows with Griffin after the post and its fallout.

In 2022, she said in an interview, “I wasn’t canceled ... I was erased.”

Now, Griffin claims to be suffering from PTSD.

Following her initial post revealing the diagnosis, she has made several other Tiktok videos. The first video she posted after the announcement featured a photo of herself and porn star Stormy Daniels holding up their middle fingers. Daniels is notably connected to the crimes Trump has been indicted for by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg relating to hush money payments.

She also made three other posts detailing her PTSD to her followers in the last week.

One was captioned, "My life definitely changed 5 1/2 years ago as you guys know, but this last year and a half has been plagued with PTSD stuff. it’s funny. I don’t have anxiety about performing, but I have anxiety about life."

Griffin claimed after the backlash to her 2017 photo that it was intended to be political satire.

The comedian claimed that the photo not only led to a federal investigation, but that it also landed her on a no-fly list.

However, in another interview since the controversy, Griffin reportedly said she wouldn't go back and avoid posting the photo if she could.

"I think a lot of people would love it if I said, 'Oh, I wish I had never taken that picture. I wish I had never cursed. I wish I had never made this comment or that comment.' But the most important thing that I hope people see is that, long after I kick the bucket, they see the crazy red-haired lady didn't go down," she explained.
