Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake beat out several fellow Republicans in a Conservative Action Political Conference straw poll for the party’s vice presidential nod.

Lake topped the list of nearly 30 GOP contenders with 20% of the vote, besting former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

In reaction to the news, Lake’s campaign tweeted gratitude for the support but said she would be unable to serve.

“We’re flattered, but unfortunately our legal team says the Constitution won’t allow for her to serve as Governor and VP at the same time,” Lake’s campaign noted.

Lake has repeatedly rejected the legitimacy of her Arizona gubernatorial electoral defeat last year.

In the vice presidency poll, DeSantis, who has yet to announce any 2024 intentions, earned 14% of the vote. Haley, who announced her presidential candidacy last month, took 10% in the poll.

Former President Donald Trump won the CPAC straw poll for the presidency with 62% of attendees’ support in comparison to DeSantis's 20%, according to Republican pollster Jim McLaughlin on Saturday. A record 2,028 people responded to the poll.
