NextImg:Karen Bass is proving herself unfit to run Los Angeles - Washington Examiner

Mayor Karen Bass‘s misplaced priorities are allowing the Los Angeles government to devolve into dysfunctional chaos.

Bass has allowed labor unions to run rampant over the governing process, starting when she imposed a $30 per hour minimum wage for tourism workers for the 2028 Olympics. When businesses that would be saddled with the additional costs decided to try to repeal the union-supported wage hike through a citywide referendum, the unions decided they would push several unrelated referendums designed to punish those and other businesses, including a referendum supporting a $30 per hour minimum wage for all workers.

According to left-wing Politico, this feud, started by Bass’s economic illiteracy, is already distracting local officials from the city’s looming $1 billion budget shortfall. “Such disputes were typically refereed by elected officials,” we are told, but Bass and her fellow Los Angeles Democrats have allowed labor unions to continue to take over City Hall. Bass herself is pressuring businesses to stand down but “has not put similar pressure on Unite Here Local 11, which endorsed her candidacy in 2022, to pull back from the ballot.” Embarrassing the United States on the world stage at the 2028 Olympics is just another negative side effect of Bass allowing labor unions to call the shots in the city.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles has completed construction on a grand total of zero homes that burned down in the January wildfires. It has been 210 days since Bass’s executive order that would “clear the way for Los Angeles residents to rapidly rebuild the homes they lost,” and the city has only issued 184 permits. The city is sitting on another 1,305 rebuilding applications. Over the first 111 days of the rebuilding process, the city approved six permits, a pace of one approval every 18.5 days. Over the past 99 days, Los Angeles has picked up the pace with 178 approvals, or 1.7 days per permit. At this current, faster pace, it would still take 767 days to approve the remaining 1,305 permits.

LOS ANGELES TO GIVE OUT MONEY TO PEOPLE ‘AFFECTED’ BY TRUMP’S IMMIGRATION RAIDS

Bass isn’t talking much about this right now, though, because she is too busy focusing her attention on ICE deportation raids that are targeting criminal illegal immigrants in her city. Bass has yet to find a camera that she won’t put herself in front of to complain about ICE removing criminals from her city, as those raids take up all her attention while she neglects the city’s failing rebuilding process.

Unsurprisingly, Bass is in over her head as mayor. Her left-wing ideology is destructive, and her lack of executive experience is glaring. Bass was always going to prioritize left-wing dogma over a functional government and, as a result, she is running Los Angeles into the ground.
