Vice President Kamala Harris declared her intention to “earn and win” the Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden’s announcement that he has withdrawn from seeking reelection.

Harris is considered the favorite to replace Biden on the top of the Democratic Party’s ticket, especially after Biden endorsed her in a follow-up statement to his withdrawal. In a statement within a few hours of Biden’s, Harris announced her forthcoming plans.

HARRIS PRESUMED FAVORITE TO REPLACE BIDEN, BUT OTHER NAMES WAIT IN THE WINGS

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” the vice president said. “Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win,” she added.

While former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton endorsed Harris for president on Sunday, former President Barack Obama did not. The former boss of Biden made no mention of Harris in his own statement regarding Biden’s decision, instead emphasizing a “process” that needs to come next.

Harris also thanked her boss for his “extraordinary leadership” and “decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office.”
