The studio and distributor behind Jesus Revolution has released Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon.

The documentary film, which details the lesser-known upbringing of country music star Johnny Cash and his rocky journey of holding on to his Christian faith, is now available via video on demand and digital.

Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company announced that the home entertainment release became available for download and streaming on May 9.

“Johnny Cash, who knew tragedy from an early age, yet never lost sight of his faith,” Kingdom Story Company said in a statement.

“[The documentary will] add depth to how ‘The Man in Black’ saw the light,” it added.

The home entertainment release will also feature bonus content, including commentary from producers Jon Erwin, Brent McCorkle, and Kevin Downes. 

Johnny Cash is directed by Ben Smallbone, who also directed faith-based film I Still Believe, which recounts the journey of Christian musical artist Jeremy Camp and his first wife’s cancer diagnosis.
