Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) claimed he was not woke on Saturday, echoing previous remarks that he is “not a progressive.”

In an interview with the New York Post, Fetterman said he was “not woke” when questioned about squatter’s rights. Known for his hooded sweatshirt and cargo shorts outfit combination, Fetterman has moved more to the center on issues since he was elected in the 2022 midterm elections.

“I am not woke,” Fetterman said.

“Squatters have no rights,” Fetterman said. “How can you even pretend that this is anything other than you’re just breaking the law?”

He said that when he was a mayor in Pennsylvania, squatters were an issue he often dealt with. He called the idea of squatter’s rights “wild.”

“It’s wild that if you go away on a long trip, for 30 days, and someone breaks into your home and suddenly they have rights,” he said. “This is crazy. Like if somebody stole your car, and then they held it for 30 days, then somehow you now have some rights?”

Fetterman’s comments come amid heightened scrutiny of squatter’s rights nationwide, particularly in cities such as New York City.

Fetterman similarly declared he was “not a progressive” in December 2023. Fetterman has been criticized by people on the far Left for his support of Israel during their war against Hamas.

“I’m not a progressive,” Fetterman told NBC News. “I just think I’m a Democrat that is very committed to choice and other things. But with Israel, I’m going to be on the right side of that.”

Fetterman said he disagreed with Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) call for a new election in Israel to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the Israel-Hamas war.

“It’s reasonable if you want to criticize, but to call for effectively like a regime change, I disagree,” Fetterman said. “I didn’t agree because Israel is a democracy; it is our key special ally. And our nation wouldn’t appreciate any kind of foreign input. So why should we do that for Israel?”
