NextImg:Joe Scarborough stands by 'best Biden ever' comment

MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough refused to walk back his previous defense of former President Joe Biden‘s health even after it was announced Biden has “aggressive” prostate cancer.

Scarborough stood by his analysis of Biden following their hourslong interview in March 2024. At the time, Scarborough said, “I undersold him when I said he was cogent,” and that “this version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever.”

“But looking back at that, do you say, ‘Well, it was misleading to say best Biden ever’ without caveating it and saying ‘except on the days when he’s not the best Biden ever,'” Mark Halperin asked Scarborough on a Tuesday episode of the Next Up with Mark Halperin podcast.

“Well, but I never saw those days personally,” Scarborough responded.

“Well, you did. You did because you saw him address a dead congresswoman and you saw him in South Carolina,” Halperin pushed. “Well, I mean, I can show you the RNC clip reel. There were plenty of days in public when he was not the best Biden ever.”

“Yeah, he stumbled and bumbled around Mark. I mean, yeah, he certainly did. Donald Trump did. Other politicians did,” Scarborough said. “And again he bumbled around and he stumbled around, but he has for quite some time. That didn’t seem to me to get in the way of Joe Biden being able to analyze the most important issues. And I certainly think he has a better grasp on it than probably the overwhelming majority of his critics or certainly did when I spoke with him.”

VANCE CALLS FOR ‘HONEST’ EVALUATION OF BIDEN’S HEALTH AS PRESIDENT IN LIGHT OF CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Scarborough stood by his sources, who defended Biden’s mental acuity to the end. According to the MSNBC anchor, the only complaint he received was that Biden occasionally became angry.

However, the first inside look into Biden’s administration will be in the book Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again by Axios reporter Alex Thompson and CNN anchor Jake Tapper. The pair claimed to interview “200 White House insiders” for the book, and said the former staffers were much more transparent following former Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss in the 2024 presidential race.
