Comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan expressed a degree of confusion over the controversy generated by the box office hit Barbie, arguing the film's critics are likely taking it too seriously and misunderstanding its intended audience.
Several well-known conservatives have spoken out against the movie, and Rogan said he knows some people personally "who said it’s anti-men." The podcast host stated that while the movie is "bizarre," it is also "a fun, silly movie" during a discussion with musician Post Malone on the Joe Rogan Experience.

"People are upset that it’s this progressive metaphor for life, that they’re pushing progressive politics in this, and I’m like, ‘It’s a f****** doll movie!’" Rogan said. "It’s a doll movie. It’s a fun movie about dolls who come to life and try to interact with the real world."
Rogan also suggested that men are not the target audience of the film. The podcaster stated the movie was not anti-men, but was instead "making fun of dorks.
"Why would you go see AC/DC if you hate AC/DC?" asked Rogan. "If you’re into classical music?"
Rogan's statements echo the perspective of The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who stated, "It's a movie about a doll," last month.

Prior to the movie's release, the Christian movie review website Movieguide stated that Barbie "forgets its core audience of families and children while catering to nostalgic adults and pushing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender character stories." Ginger Gaetz, the wife of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), expressed criticism over how the film "tries to normalize the idea that men and women can't collaborate positively."
Barbie has been a massive success at the box office, opening to $162 million in mid-July. As of Monday, the movie has grossed over $1 billion at the global box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
