Washington Examiner Senior Writer Joe Concha dismissed left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore’s suggestion for an updated Pledge of Allegiance.
“[T]he Pledge of Allegiance is already perfect. I mean, why mess with a good thing? Of course, and under God is taken out of the Michael Moore version,” Concha said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends First Wednesday. “This is the same guy who said all Trump supporters are racist. So 78 million of you out there, congratulations, you’re now a racist just for the way you voted. Michael Moore has not been relevant for some time. This appears to be a desperate plea for attention.”

Moore’s pledge reads: “I pledge allegiance to the people of the United States of America. And to the democracy for which we all stand: One person, one vote, one nation, part of one world, everyone! A seat at the table! Everyone! A slice of the pie! With liberty and justice, equality and kindness and the pursuit of happiness for all.”

“I’m pretty sure Michael Moore does not need another slice of the pie,” Concha added, prompting laughter from the show’s co-host Todd Pirro. “Sorry, had to go there for a second.”
The pledge has changed over the years. It was originally written in 1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy. In 1923, it was clarified that the pledge was to the flag “of the United States of America.” Finally, in 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed that the phrase “under God” be added.
