President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will travel to Florida today to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia.

According to the White House, they will be traveling to Live Oak, Florida, a community heavily affected by the storm. Biden will meet with residents impacted by the storm and is expected to give remarks.

After Florida, the Biden’s are expected to depart to their house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where they will stay for the remainder of Labor Day weekend, according to the White House.

The visit to Florida also comes one day after the White House requested an additional $4 billion in disaster relief from Congress.

They are adding this $4 billion to an emergency supplemental funding request which includes $12 billion in relief funding for the Hawaii wildfire.

The $16 billion in additional disaster relief is currently added together with the previous $40 billion emergency supplemental request, which includes $24 billion in additional aid to Ukraine as they continue to defend themselves against a Russian invasion.

House Republicans have been vocally opposed to tying disaster relief and Ukraine aid together and want to have them separated.

“Disaster recovery relief for Florida, Hawaii, & other states reeling from recent disasters should NOT be attached to additional money for Ukraine,” Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said in a social media post. “We must put the American people & the homeland FIRST. Shelling out billions to Ukraine on the backs of hurting Americans is wrong.”
