A “Trump original” who has been on President Donald Trump‘s communications team since his first term is stepping out to form her own communications strategy firm in a capital city where ties to the White House are growing increasingly valuable.

Julia Hahn, the Treasury Department’s assistant secretary for public affairs, built the department’s PR team to help Secretary Scott Bessent and the administration push through Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in time for the president to sign it on Independence Day.

“Her strategic communication and commitment to the America First agenda have been invaluable in shaping our public outreach and enacting the president’s tax cuts,” said Bessent.

Passage of the legislation of tax cuts and spending increases cemented much of Trump’s agenda, and while it was approved in the House and Senate on the president’s timeline, several insiders thought the effort would stretch on longer.

“Her work at the Treasury Department during this term has helped advance the president’s mission to put American workers and families first, and get critically needed tax cuts signed into law,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Deputy White House chief of staff Stephen Miller, one of several top first-term Trump aides with whom Hahn worked, joined with other longtime presidential advisers in wishing Hahn good luck.

“Julia, who has supported President Trump from the very beginning of his first run for president, and who was a prized member of the first administration has been an invaluable asset to the Treasury Department in advancing and implementing the president’s agenda for economic prosperity and dominance. While her departure is a major loss to the administration, we know that she will continue to be an extraordinary ally on the outside and a constant source of wisdom and guidance,” he said.

Hahn, 34, told Secrets, “It has been an honor to serve at the Treasury Department, advancing policies that strengthen America’s economy and prioritize its workers and families. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to President Trump’s agenda and look forward to continuing to champion these values in my next chapter.”

As she readies to leave Treasury and hang out a shingle, Hahn should be welcomed by a Washington that was far less open to Trump aides during his first administration. Since returning to the Oval Office, the city and Wall Street have become much closer to the administration.

“If you have connections to the Trump administration, especially coming from Treasury, then that is going to be of high value to many companies looking for strategy and insights,” said Ron Bonjean, the co-founder of ROKK Solutions, an influential and bipartisan communications strategy firm in Washington.

Before entering politics, Hahn worked in media as executive producer for Laura Ingraham’s former radio show and then for Breitbart News Network. In the first Trump White House, she worked with top Trump aides, including Miller, Steve Bannon, Dan Scavino, Mercedes Schlapp, Hope Hicks, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders. She eventually became deputy White House communications director.

After the first term, she joined the staff of Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) as deputy chief of staff before joining Bessent’s team after Trump’s defeat of former Vice President Kamala Harris last year.

Bessent was generous in wishing Hahn well.

“On behalf of the Treasury Department, I extend my deepest gratitude to Assistant Secretary Julia Hahn for her unwavering dedication and exceptional service in advancing our mission to strengthen America’s economic prosperity,” said Bessent. He added, “We wish her continued success and know she will carry forward the same passion and excellence that defined her time here.”
