


Author J.K. Rowling is close to reaching an agreement with HBO Max for a new TV series based on her seven Harry Potter books.
Warner Bros. is currently negotiating a deal with Rowling that would see the author assume the role of producer while ensuring creative control over her work, according to a report.

The deal is reportedly seeking to produce a seven-season series with each book becoming the focus of one season.
The news comes amid increasing outrage over Rowling’s stance on biological sex being the standard for how a man or woman is defined.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has reportedly spoken in support of Rowling, while online ire has stirred.
Several tweets called Rowling “transphobic” and suggested that the TV series deal be canceled.

In a recent episode of The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling podcast, Rowling addressed people’s attempts to cancel her.

"Look, I’ve heard this all the time. ‘We’re holding you accountable. We’re holding you accountable,’” Rowling said. “Well, I would say this: I’m a great believer in looking at not what people say, but what they do. How are you behaving?"
"If you are threatening, if you are threatening to remove livelihoods, if you are saying, ‘This person is canceled.’ That is the language of a dictator," she continued. "I mean, I’ve literally lost count of the number of times I’ve seen the hashtag #RIPJKRowling floating around. I don’t call that being held accountable."
