Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter are nearing the end of their lives, according to their grandson Jason Carter.
“They're coming to the end, as we know,” Jason Carter told USA Today on Thursday.
SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: SECOND ROUND OF DIRECT PAYMENTS WORTH UP TO $4,555 TO ARRIVE IN FIVE DAYS
Jimmy Carter will turn 99 on Oct. 1, while Rosalyn turned 96 last month. The pair have been married 77 years as of July, making them the longest-married presidential couple in history.
“He's been in hospice now for several months, but they are happy,” Jason Carter said. “They are together. They are at home. They're in love, and I don't think anyone gets more than that. I mean, it's a perfect situation for this time in their lives.”
Both Carters are approaching their seventh month in at-home hospice care. Previously, the former president had undergone several short hospital stays and opted for hospice over additional medical intervention.
Jason Carter already offered a forecast last month that his grandparents had entered their "final chapter."
