Former first lady Jill Biden wished former President Joe Biden a happy anniversary Tuesday as the couple marked 48 years of marriage.
Jill Biden shared a photo on Instagram of her in her wedding dress alongside Hunter Biden and the late Beau Biden, the former president’s sons from a previous marriage that ended when his first wife died in a car crash.

“This is the truest thing I know: that love makes a family whole,” Jill Biden captioned the photo. “Happy anniversary @JoeBiden.”
The Bidens were married on June 17, 1977, at the United Nations Chapel in New York City. Jill Biden wore a long-sleeved, tea-length white dress.
The former first couple reportedly exchanged vows in front of around 40 guests. Their wedding came after Joe Biden proposed five times before the former first lady said yes. Jill Biden told Vogue she “had to be 100 percent sure.”
“I said, ‘Not yet. Not yet. Not yet.’ Because by that time, of course, I had fallen in love with the boys, and I really felt that this marriage had to work. Because they had lost their mom, and I couldn’t have them lose another mother. So I had to be 100 percent sure,” Jill Biden said.

Joe Biden became the 46th president on Jan. 20, 2021. Much of his presidency was marked by questions surrounding his cognitive ability and whether he was fit to be in office.
At age 82, Joe Biden has become the focus of multiple investigations into the use of an autopen. President Donald Trump signed a June 4 presidential memorandum directing an investigation into whether “certain individuals conspired to deceive the public about Biden’s mental state and unconstitutionally exercise the authorities and responsibilities of the President.”
