Actress Jessica Chastain said Wednesday that she does not agree with Apple‘s decision to pull her upcoming political thriller The Savant from Apple TV+ and that she hopes the show will eventually be released.
The Savant is a series following a mother who infiltrates “online hate groups” to stop domestic terrorist attacks and was set to release on Friday. However, Apple pulled the show on Tuesday, less than two weeks after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was killed on Sept. 10.

Chastain, known for her roles in Interstellar, The Martian, and The Help, said she is “not aligned” with Apple’s decision, pointing to Kirk’s assassination, the two attempts on President Donald Trump’s life, the attack on Paul Pelosi, and other acts of political violence.
“These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted,” Chastain said. “I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is.”
The actress said she respects Apple’s decision to pull the show but also that she is hopeful people can watch it soon. She added she would “let you know if and when” the show is released.
Apple TV+ still lists the show on its platform, though its release date reads “Coming Soon 2025” as of Thursday afternoon.

Comedy Central pulled a South Park episode parodying Kirk, featuring Eric Cartman as the Turning Point USA founder, from the channel’s rerun schedule after his murder. However, the episode is still available to stream on Paramount+.
Andrew Kolvet, producer of The Charlie Kirk Show, said on X that Kirk “loved that he was featured in” the show and would have wanted the episode back up. Kirk briefly had Cartman’s impersonation of himself as his profile picture on X, ahead of the episode premiere.
