MILWAUKEE — Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) was greeted with applause, handshakes, and back slaps as he was introduced at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee as the party’s vice presidential nominee for the first time.
Vance received a warm welcome after Trump announced him as his vice presidential nominee on his Truth Social media platform on Monday afternoon. The crowd earlier briefly chanted “J.D.! J.D!” as they waited for a technical issue that delayed proceedings to be resolved.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump posted. “J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association.”
“J.D.’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country,” the former president wrote. “J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond…”

Vance’s candidacy was helped in part by the first-term senator’s relationship with Donald Trump Jr. Trump Jr. is poised to introduce Vance before his convention speech on Thursday night, but he was on the floor Monday to officially nominate his father as the Republican 2024 presidential nominee.
“I think it’s an incredible pick,” Trump Jr. told reporters of Vance. “I think he’s an incredible guy with an amazing story, both in business and in life and I think he’s going to be an incredible person to help unify this country.”
